An export-oriented IT company had not been claiming VAT refunds for years, even though it was entitled to them.
An export-oriented IT company providing software services was not exercising its right to a VAT refund, even though outbound invoices were exempt and it was entitled to deduct input VAT from incoming invoices. The previous accountant was not filing VAT refund claims, reportedly out of fear of a Tax Administration audit, so the company was losing significant funds without a clear view of the scale of that loss.
The client came to us through the IT community and referrals, at a moment when they were considering professionalizing financial reporting and optimizing cash flow.
We established that the client had not used their VAT refund right for years, and that a substantial tax credit had remained unused. After starting the engagement we audited the previous five years of operations, then prepared and filed a VAT refund claim. The financial inspection audit passed without issues thanks to orderly documentation.
More than EUR 100,000 in VAT credit was successfully returned, giving the company additional liquidity to invest in team and technology. The client now regularly uses the VAT refund right, with ongoing tax optimization and planning.
